Journey
Created and programmed by Tim Dubovsky aka Silent Thunder

Update: 2/4/03- Made character movement much faster. Fixed
a few other bugs.

Installation:
Clear your calculator's memory, as the game takes up most of the
calculators memory. Send the group file Journey.83g to your
calculator. Run the program Journey on you calc to begin the game.

Playing the game:

When you begin, the title screen is displayed. Press enter to
select New. The story is displayed and then you are taken to the
map screen.

The goal of the game is to move around the world searching for the
three caves that contain creatures of darkness. After each creature
is defeated one of the three seals are broken. Once the three seals
are broken then you may enter the final tower and face the final
evil.

Use the arrow keys to move around. Press the 2nd key to bring
up the option screen.

On the option screen you can choose to view you character's status,
use items or magic, and save or quit the game.

Under status you can view your current level, your current and hit
points and magic points, your power, defense, and magic, the weapon
and armor you have equipped, number of experience points to the
next level, and the amount of gold that you possess.

The items you can use are as follows:
potion: recovers 50 HP
mid-potion: recovers 200 HP
max-potion: recovers 999 HP
ether: recovers 15 MP
max-ether: recovers 99 MP
elixir: recovers 999 HP and 99 MP

Under the magic menu you can use cure and cure2 once you have learned
those spells.

Towns:
Throughout the world you will find towns. Each town has an inn for
complete HP and MP recovery that you can stay at for 25 gold. You
can also buy items, weapons, and armor at every town. Each town
has a different stock of weapons and armor. Weapons and armor are
automatically equipped when you by them, so be careful not to
accidently buy a weaker weapon or armor than you are already carrying
or you will waste money! You can also talk to townspeople, who may
offer hints of where to go next.

Battle:
As you travel the world you will encounter random battles with monsters.
When this happens, you will be taken to the battle screen which shows
your enemy, you HP and MP, and four options:

Fight
Magic
Item
Run

If you choose fight, then you will attack with you current weapon.

Choosing magic will take you to the magic menu where you can select to
attack with one of the spells you have learned, or to cure youself.

Magic Spells:
Cure 2MP
Fire 3MP
Ice 3MP
Lightning	3MP
Earth 5MP
Cure2 6MP
Fire2 7MP
Ice2 7MP
Lightning2	7MP
Dark 12MP

Choosing item will allow you to use one item that you have in stock.

Choosing run will allow you to escape the battle immediately, however
you will not receive any experience or gold. Running is 100% successful
except during the four boss fights.

After you have carried out an action, the enemy will attack and then
it will be you turn once again. This continues until you or the enemy
is defeated.

Once the enemy is defeated you will receive experience and gold.

Once you gain enough experience, then you will gain a level. All of
your stats will be raised. New magic spells are learned at certain levels.

Caves:
Your goal in the game is to find the three caves and defeat the creatures
of darkness that lurks inside of them to break the three seals in order
to fight the final evil. Once you have found a cave, you will have to
face ten regular battles in a row before you can face the creature of
darkness.

Final hints and tips:
You begin right next to you castle/town. You also begin with 200 gold.
You do NOT begin with any weapons or armor. I suggest going into town
immediately and buying the wood sword and the leather suit. You will
probably die otherwise.

Draw a map of the game world as you travel the land. This will greatly
aid you in quickly getting to where you want to go and finding towns
and caves.

Build your levels. It takes a lot of experience building to proceed
though the later stages of the game-especially the third dark creature
and the final boss.

Always buy new weapons and armor when you reach a new town.

Nearly every enemy is succeptable to a type of magic, such as fire, ice,
lightning, or earth. This can double the damage the magic usually does.
This knowledge is particularly effective on bosses.

I would not try to take on the final boss until you have learned dark.

Known bugs:

Saving will not save you items. If you quit the game and continue later
then all of you items will be gone. There's not enough memory on the calc
for me to fix this and also leave every other feature that's in the game.

You can go through a portion of the solid walls on the map screen. Once
again I do not have enough memory to fix this, and it's only a faily minor
problem. Just exit screens where you're supposed to and everything will
run fine.

If you die, you will start at the last spot where you saved. You will,
however, retain all of the experience and gold that you collected after
you saved. For example, let's say you saved just outside of a cave and
went inside and fought the ten battles and then died from the boss. You
will still keep the experience from the ten battles, even though the player
never saved. Once again I do not have enough memory to fix this. It
benefits the player however, which I'm sure no one minds.
