Documentation for Ghetto Fighter v2.0

by Michael Lieberman

Hey, all. I made this TI BASIC program, since I don't know ASM, during and in between by high school classes. I made it on the calculator, so it took awhile. I hope you like it.

Ghetto Fighter is a text fighting game where you must fight other people for cash. You then use this cash to train other parts of your body, allowing you to take on stronger and tougher opponents.

Before the game starts, you are asked your name and if you are right or left handed. This will affect the rating of your left and right hand in the game. The name is also used later on.

There is a status screen which displays your name, hitpoints, stamina, right hand power, left hand power, kicking power, and the amount of cash you have.

Hitpoints is how much health you have. When you are hit by your opponent, your hitpoints go down. If they go below 0, you lose the match. Alternatively, if your opponent's hitpoints go below 0, you win the match. After a match, you regain all the hitpoints you had before the match began, regardless if you win or lose. This is because it is assumed that you rest up before your next fight.

Stamina is a general variable that affects all of your attacks. The higher your stamina, the more general power you have.

Right hand power and left hand power is the amount of power you have respectively in each hand. You cannot train your hands above a certain amount (otherwise, you could just train one hand to be REALLY powerful and beat everyone with just one punch). The kick power is the same as the hands' power, in that it cannot be trained above a certain point. In general, the kick is more powerful than the hands.

Money, I think, is pretty straightforward. It is the amount of cash you have.

On the Main Menu, there are four options:
1. Training Courses
2. Workout
3. Fight!
4. Quit

Training courses are what you take to train the parts of your body. You can train your hitpoints, right hand, left hand, or kick. All of these variable cannot be trained above a certain point, because that would make the game too easy. Also, the training courses get more expensive as you advance to the next level of training. The "Back" option is not a body part, it takes you back to the main menu.

A workout increases your stamina temporarily, but decreases your hitpoints, also temporarily. I put this option in so if you have a lot of hitpoints but low on power, you can do this.

Fight, obviously, goes on to the fight menu.

Quit quits the game.

Ok, now the fight menu. You can go to five fighting areas. In each area, which increase in difficulty, there are four fighters, also increasing in difficulty. "Increasing in difficulty" means that they are stronger and can hit harder. Choose your fighting area wisely.

Once you challenge someone to a fight, you get a look at their hitpoints vs. your hitpoints. If you decide they are too powerful for you, you can back down from the fight, but you must pay anywhere from 10 to 30 dollars.

In the fight, you can throw a right punch, left punch, kick, or super punch. The super punch delivers a great deal of damage, however it is unlikely you will get a hit.
Here are the probabilities for what you throw:

Right/Left Punch: 2/3 times hit, 1/3 time blocked
Kick: 3/5 kicks hit, 2/5 kicks blocked
Super punch: 1/5 times hit, 4/5 times blocked

If you win, you get money depending on where you fight.
If you lose, you must pay money depending on where you fight as well.

To win you must beat King Jojo, in the Dojo of Jojo. Beware: he is very powerful!

One last thing. Every 1 out of ten times that you lose, a secret benefactor will send you money. Spend it wisely!
