Amiga Hard Drives - Particularly Third Party
	    ----------------------------------------------

A Hard Drive added to an Amiga makes the Machine a lot more powerful.
Software installed onto the Hard Drive can be accessed much quicker
than if it was on Floppy Disk. The Amiga Operating System when
installed onto a Hard Drive becomes a very usable and enjoyable
system.

However it has come to our attention that some Hard Drives
are causing people problems when installing and using certain pieces
of Software. This problem mainly effects larger programs, smaller
programs such as Workbench programs work fine and cause no apparent
problem. The problem you may be experiencing is that some Programs
may seem to install properly but when they are executed the program
will `crash` and stop running or the program will not work properly
and the computer will `lock-up`.

This is may be caused by the Max-Transfer rate (The speed that data
is read from the drive) being set too high. The possible solution is
to lower the Max-Transfer rate, guidelines for doing this are given
below.

Important:
----------

Because their are many different Hard Drive Preparation Programs
available, I can only give advice on what needs to be done. Changing
the Max-Transfer rate wrongly could cause your Hard Drive to stop
working properly and you will have to Re-Format it and start again.

	   -----------------------------------------------

If you have any problems or need advice consult the Company from
whom you bought your Hard Drive and Preparation Software. They are
best suited to give you advice.

1: You need to Load your Hard Drive Preparation Program.

2: Find the Max-Transfer Rate of the Partitions on the drive. This
is normally under the Advanced Options part of the Preparation
   Program.

3: You will see that each Partition will have a Max-Transfer Rate.
This may be set at 0X7FFFFFFF or 0XFFFFFFFF it needs to be set at
a smaller value such as 0X00002000.

I would suggest that you only change the value of one partition, the
partition you wish to install Large Programs onto. Leaving the
Partition with your Workbench on alone, then if something does go
wrong it will be easy to change the Max-Transfer rate value back to
its original setting.

The problems that I have highlighted do not just effect the Software
that we produce but may effect Software from other manufactures as
well.

If you have any further problems or questions then please do not
hesitate to get back in contact with me and I will try to help.
