Welcome to the obligatory Colonization read me file!

Here you will find some items that didn't make it into the technical
supplement.

 *                                                                        *
 * IMPORTANT - Contrary to the technical supplement, Colonization will *
 * need 1.5MB of installed memory IF you want to run the game *
 *             from hard disk.                                            *
 *                                                                        *
 * THERE WILL NEED TO BE AT LEAST 890K OF FREE MEMORY TO RUN *
 *             COLONIZATION PROPERLY.                                     *
 *                                                                        *

1MB RAM USERS

Because of memory limitations -

  - A600/A500+ users with only 1MB of RAM will need to do one of the
    following to save memory...

      From the "Sound Options" in the "Game" menu once the game is running,
      disable both the music options.

        OR

      Remove any extra peripherals, such as a second disk drive.

  - Sound effects will not be available during the game.

  - Window refreshing may be delayed and/or sluggish.

FOR A1200/A4000 USERS (OR THOSE WITH EXTRA VIDEO HARDWARE)

If it is possible to open a 64 colour screen on your machine
(i.e. an AGA equipped machine) then your Colonization screen will be jazzed
up a little with the addition of a patterned backdrop.

These users can also play Colonization on the Workbench screen, see below
for more information on this.

Extra memory above 1MB will result in smoother window updates and a general
speedup.

FOR EXPERIENCED AMIGA USERS

Colonization saved games are transferable between the Amiga version and
MSDOS versions of the game on an IBM compatible PC. Simply copy the
required saved game file between machines.

You can find your saved game files...

  MSDOS - In the directory where you installed the game.

  Amiga HD - In the "Exe" directory where you installed the game.

  Amiga floppy - On your "COLONIZATIONSAVES" disk.

  e.g. "Copy Work:Colonization/Exe/Colony00.sav PC0:" will copy your first
       saved game onto an MSDOS formatted floppy (Workbench 2.1 or greater
       users only). See your Amiga manual for information on using
       MSDOS disks.

  If your not using Workbench 2.1 or greater you will need a third party
  utility to access MSDOS formatted disks.

Running the game executeable ("Colonization") from a CLI allows you to pass
some special parameters...

  NOSOUND - Disables all music and sound effects including the driver
              itself.

  WORKBENCH - Forces the game to open all its windows on the Workbench
              screen. You must set your Workbench screen to be 32 colours or
              better!

  e.g. Typing "Colonization WORKBENCH" (case not important) will run the
       game on the Workbench screen.
